About Mussoorie, Uttarakhand India
Mussoorie, the home of 'Cedrus Deodara' is a whole season heaven located in midst of the middle Himalaya known as the 'Shivalik' mountain range. Perched at an altitude of 7000 feet above sea level, the hill station is known for its mouth-dropping scenaries. The breathtakingly beautiful Doon Valley, the ridge lines dotted with tall deodars, myriads of flower, green wavy hills, known and strange fauna make this lovely hill station a fairy tale town. The hill resort got its name from a shrub named 'Mansur' found in abundance.
Unlike other hill stations, Mussoorie was never the summer capital of British but it has always captivated the visitors with its ambience of informality and romance since ages and probably this is the reason, it got the title of 'honeymoon capital of India' long back.
Red-tiled cottage type houses, Tibetan prayer flags, ancientmonasteries and Chortens have added colour. No other hill station is at such close proximity to the snowy ranges as Mussoorie. It is open to the north, so the snowy peaks are clearly visible.
Today this highly developed hill station is a vibrant tourist destination.Amble along the walkways, enjoy the company of holidaymakers filling the winding lanes with loud exuberance, dig out the several hidden treasures crammed into its compact territory .The hill station has something for all tastes!

By Air:
Jolly Grant Airport is conveniently connected by Indian Airlines.
By Rail:
Dehradun is the nearest and the major railhead situated at a distance of 34 kms from Mussoorie.It is conveniently connected to all major cities.
By Road:
There are several buses plying from Mussorie to various places. Uttarakhand State Transport Corporation (UASRTC) offers direct bus service facilities conncting it to various places. Mussoorie has four prominent bus stands namely
Library Bus Stand, Masonic Bus Stand, Tehri Bus Stand, Kempty Bus Stand (Seasonal May-Oct). Apart from bus service, Mussoorie also boasts of having motorable roads connecting it various other regions.
Climate
Mussorie enjoys a pleasant climate through out the year. Its climate acts as a magnet and draws tourists in large numbers especially in summers. Winters are quite severe here and the roads get blocked because of heavy snowfall. It is suggested to carry thick wollen garments to combat the chilly weather. The temperature ranges between 9° and 29°C in summer and between 7° and l °C in winter. The monsoons usually arrive in the the end of June and lasts through September with an average rainfall of 177-288 cm. The tourist season is from May to June, and again from September to November which is the spring time. The hill station wows the tourists by providing clear view of the mighty Himalayas during September to November. |
