Mussoorie District

The picturesque city of Mussoorie is lying at a distance of 34 km from Dehradun in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is just 290 km by road from Delhi. The pretty hill station was developed by Captain Young, a British military officer and till date retains much of the charm of the British Era. There are a number of tourist places and attractions in the hill town. Due to the heavy influx of the tourists, the place is flooded with a number of hotels and resorts.

Mussoorie is famous for housing many a renowned academic institution. The Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration is located in the hill station. St George College, the Oak Grove School and the Woodstock School are some of the famous colonial-period schools. The city is also home to plenty of churches and Roman Catholic institutions. There is a Roman Cathedral located here too. The first brewery of India was set up in Mussoorie in 1850.

Mussoorie is shares proximity with major cities like Delhi, Ambala and Chandigarh (Punjab). Landour (the convalescent depot for European troops), Barlowganj and Jharipani (8 km) are adjoining towns in Mussoorie. All these small towns are a part of the ‘Greater Mussoorie’.Hindi, English and Garhwali (local dialect) are the major spoken languages in Mussoorie.
