Mussoorie History, Uttarakhand India lt was 1823. An adventurous officer of the Indian British Army, Captain Young along with Mr. Shore the resident Superintendent of Revenues at Dehradun constructed a shooting lodge. Captain Young constructed the first building as Commandant of Landour at pine shaded Landour, 'Mullingar', 270 m higher than the city. The Mulingar is a hotel now. Following his example, others arrived at the hill station and thus the Victorian Resort at Mussoorie was built. The Sanatorium in 1826, the Anglican Church in 1837, the Municipal Board in 1873 were also built. As the town flourished, it became a major settlement of the home - sick British.
Each and every mountain road here is ready to share its own tale. Lal tibba, Gun hill, the Camel Back cemetery, the Mussoorie Library and many other spots will transport you to a different age. The old houses will surely make you feel nostalgic. |
